In August of last year I had total reconstructive surgery of my fully torn ACL and meniscus. Not being able to run or complete a proper workout for months was one of the most difficult things I have had to go through (add on starting a new job where I worked with delinquent youth, moving to 4 different houses within the course of 3 months, and questioning what I wanted to do for a “real” profession). I started looking through old journals and talking to my parents, friends, and mentors. The idea of becoming a personal trainer continued to pop up throughout the past 4 years. As I graduated high school, I wanted nothing to do with sports since I had been known as a jock my entire life. But I loved working out and teaching my friends new workouts to complete. Sports and fitness was a part of my life and I wanted to embrace it.
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and thought I wanted to get my masters in counseling. But integrating sports into my profession seemed so appealing. I started looking for programs to become a personal trainer and thankfully found the National Personal Training Institute (NPTI) in Portland. I visited the school in April and signed up for July 2011 summer classes as soon as I got home from the tour of NPTI!
So here I am in my 5th month of school. I have been taking classes in physiology, nutrition, anatomy, and business; learning about the origins and insertions of muscles, the science behind weight management, diabetes, and our digestive system, as well as bioenergetics and hormones, and learning how to create my own business from the ground up. I get so excited about how much I have learned and truly want to share this knowledge with you as my followers! I have a heart to help people and if I can combine this passion with my passion for overall fitness, I’ll be a happy camper.
What I love about health and fitness is that it’s not just about working out or just about eating well. It’s about your lifestyle. I want myself and others to have harmony in health where we can embrace our overall fitness. With this blog I will be bringing you information on nutrition and muscles, great workouts of the day, inspirational quotes, recipes, and more. I really want our young adult population to start a change to make ourselves healthier so we can pass these habits down to the next generation. So embrace your overall fitness with “Harmony in Health”!
